Alabama Weather Update 9 p.m.

October 30, 2009, 9:00 pm | Bill Murray | Forecast Discussion, Severe Weather

Limestone and Madison Counties continue under severe thunderstorm warning until 9:30 p.m. tonight.

The thunderstorm activity has lost its punch with the loss of the heating of the day though across Central Alabama.

The line of showers and storms extends from Decatur to Cullman to east of Tuscaloosa to Greensboro to Linden in Southwest Alabama.

The heaviest activity is over Hale, Tuscaloosa and southern Walker Counties. Some of this will affect parts of the Birmingham metro over the next hour or two.

About a 50 mile wide band of showers extends back to near the Mississippi border. The line is moving east at 15-20 mph.

Additional showers are over northeastern Jefferson and much of Blount Counties. To the east of that, scattered showers are found all the way to the Georgia border.

Rain still covers most of Mississippi, so expect rain for most of the night. But the rain should mainly end by early morning, with clearing skies during the day. It will be cool, with highs near 60 degrees and a brisk northwest wind.

The tornado watch has been canceled for Alabama.

There still could be a few strong wind gusts overnight with any stronger storms that form, but significant severe weather is not expected for the rest of tonight.
