Cold Front On The Way

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

MILD AGAIN TODAY: Temperatures will rise back into the low to mid 70s across our state today, but a cold front will bring us back to reality tomorrow with a good 15 degree drop in daytime temperatures. The sky will be partly sunny, with clouds thickening late in the day.

HOW MUCH RAIN: Don’t expect much rain with the front due to the lack of moisture. The NAM is printing only 0.04″ of rain for Birmingham, while the GFS is a little wetter with 0.28″. The main window for showers will come from about 6:00 this evening through 12:00 noon tomorrow, and we don’t figure we will see anything more than scattered light showers.

MUCH COOLER TOMORROW: Most places will remain in the 50s all day tomorrow; we will struggle to reach the 60 degree mark with a cool north wind. The sky will remain mostly cloudy, making it feel cooler. Quite a difference from the mild weather we have enjoyed in recent days. Wednesday will be just as cool, and for now we won’t mention any risk of rain on in our formal forecast, although a shower or two might show up over the northeast part of the state.

END OF THE WEEK AND THE WEEKEND: Thursday looks like a mostly sunny day with a high in the upper 60s, but we will bring back a chance of showers Friday night with a short wave passing through. The GFS is not very aggressive with this feature, and most of the weekend ahead looks dry with seasonal temperatures (60s during the day and 40s at night). Confidence is not especially high in the weekend forecast due to inconsistent model output, be watching for changes.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: Looks like we could start the week with a round of showers and storms one week from today; watch the Weather Xtreme video for a day by day breakout of expected weather next week, which of course, is out there in voodoo land.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will record a few episode tonight; it will be posted by 11:00 p.m.

I wanted to thank everyone again for coming out to Storm Alert Xtreme. We had a standing room only crowd, and Brian did an excellent job as always. I will post the video from the event here a little later this morning (we recorded the live uStream feed) if you want to see it all again! I will have the next Weather Xtreme video here by 3:30 this afternoon. Enjoy the day!
