A Raw Sunday Morning–6:20 Update

November 22, 2009, 6:23 am | J.B. Elliott | Forecast Discussion

It is a raw Sunday morning across the Alabama Countryside with lots of rain, brisk east wind, and chilly temperatures.

Actually, most of the rain was over the north and central parts and moving north.

The most widespread rain was over the northeast and east central counties. Especially from Dekalb County southward along the east tier of counties to Clay,Tallapoosa, Randolph and Chambers. Rain was heavy in some of those areas.

Over on the west side of the state there were scattered showers mainly over Hale and Greene County.

It is quite breezy, in fact downright windy on the ridges and even some of the valleys. Birmingham Airport was reporting east winds gusting to 31 mph.

How about this 6 am observation from the Mt. Cheaha Skycam:

Visibility near zero because they are in the clouds
Steady cold rain
Temperature 44
Wind Chill 39
Wind east with gusts as high as 40 mph

Bill will be on duty today and also look for the Sunday morning video discussion that Brian will post a little later this morning.

It is indeed a raw day out there. I just went out to check the rain gauge and the wind nearly blew me down. I’m estimating SE15-25G40. The rain was coming in sideways and biting. It’s currently 47.8 with 0.62″ in the gauge and about another hour of light rain left.
