Update just before 9 pm
The rain has developed nicely ahead of a cold front this evening. A line of storms stretched from the Memphis, TN, area southwesterly to Shreveport, LA, then further southwest to east of San Antonio. The heaviest rain was east of Little Rock, and they recorded a little over 8 tenths of an inch. It appears that Memphis missed the heavier rain with only a quarter of an inch reported there so far.
I think much of North and Central Alabama will see rain Monday morning. The bulk of the rain will not reach Alabama until after midnight. The rain should exit the eastern part of Alabama by Monday evening. Rain chances are the best from about 3 am to noon for the Birmingham area. Rainfall amounts in this round of rain will probably come in between a half inch and one inch.
Temperatures behind the front drop rapidly into the 40s. I suspect tomorrow with the rain and clouds we will not see much change in temperature until the front passes with readings Monday morning in the lower and middle 50s. After the front passes, look for the temperatures to drop into the 40s fairly quickly.
Another round of rain is in store for Central Alabama on Wednesday. That round could produce rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches with even heavier amounts (3 to 4 inches) south of Montgomery.
