Twittering Away on an Early Saturday…

December 5, 2009, 3:57 am | Bill Murray | Winter

The Skywatcher instant messages, blog comments and Twitter posts really revolutionize how we follow snow events, don’t they? Thanks to everyone who contributed to the news about the event overnight.

Some reports in the past hour from those of you who are Twittering with the hashtag #ALWX:

…Jenni Broyles says light snow flurries coming down again on Lake Tuscaloosa…radar hears ‘ya Jenni…probably coming down a little heavier up around New Lexington, Samantha, Moore’s Bridge and Whitson, as well as Windham Springs in the northern part of Tuscaloosa County…this band gets fairly heav as you move up through eastern Fayette County around Berry…and into Walker and Winston Counties…it starts to dimiish a bit over northwestern Cullman County.

…That band is translating eastward and weakening a bit, but will bring some more snow to areas in its path….

…Just east of it, a new little snow burst has formed over northern Jefferson County into Blount and Cullman Counties…snowing from Gardendale and Pinson up to west of Oneonta to near Holly Pond…

…Brent Nobbley is disappointed over in Roanoke…and heading to bed…sorry about that Brent…I really though that the Roanoke area might have been in line to see much better snow based on the model data…but there is a point when you just have to wait on Moter Nature to see what she has in store…the atmosphere down there was just not able to cool enough…nice precipitation back back near Alexander City though…maybe it will come through with something before it is over.

…Maridale over in Childersburg reported not a drop of snow in Childersburg through 1:55 a.m., just rain and gave a big frowny face on her Twitter post. (Cute doggie though Maridale!)

Thanks for putting those hashtags on your Twitter reports. Don’t forget to say where you are. It helps in the heat of reporting…Twitpics are great by the way!

Other reports…
…Rebecca Young reports 1″ at WZZK
…Snow started falling Ashland around 1:41…near the Airport
…3/4 of an inch in Irondale…
…shortly before 1:30, Adam Wiggins reported snow starting to stick in Odenville
…Our friend Johhn Talbot faithfully reporting some fairly heavy snow just after 1 a.m. in the Concord/Hueytown area…covering tops of cars
…James Payton in Huntsville was the source of inspiration for my French Toast Warning this morning…he im’d on the Skywatcher Chat that he was heading to bed with visions of the breakfast delicacy dancing in his head…

The radar is really quieting down and all of the activity will be out of the state by 7 a.m. or so. The clearing line is already moving into West Alabama and western sections will wake up sunny. Better get the cameras out early cause the sun will remove most traces of the snow if you tarry…

FROM JACKSON, MS
Eric Law over at WLBT reports that bridges in Jackson are very slick this morning with accidents everywhere. Be careful if you are in areas that have seen snow…bridges could be a bit tricky this morning.

Still up here in Atlanta, waiting to see if anything is going to happen. I’d go to sleep, but I don’t want to miss out if we do get some snow here. So far, it’s just partly to mostly cloudy here and in the upper 30s. Very damp cold air, that’s for sure.
