December 8, 2009, 7:26 pm | Bill Murray | Severe Weather

Two severe thunderstorms over eastern Mississippi at this hour.

One has a tornado warning on it for northwestern Lauderdale and Newton Counties in Mississippi. The storm that contains a possible tornado is near Newton.

The other severe storm is southwestern of the lead storm.

They are moving northeast at 50 mph, which is really quick.

This is the two hour projected track on these two storms…

As you can see, these lead storms will be in the Tuscaloosa area before 9 p.m.

The situation over Central Alabama will become prime for severe weather over the next few ours as high dewpoint air moves up into Alabama.

This is a troubling situation with the potential for significant tornadoes tonight. Tornado watches are in effect.

Stay tuned to the latest weather information through the overnight and be ready to take action if warnings are issued for your area.

71/69 Here in Mobile. Still alot of moisture to advect north overcast skies with minimal precip should allow that to occur quickly. Seems like now everything is focused north of my area. We’ll wait and see how it goes but it seems to be a more west central al event.

Does anyone know if East AL will have any problems tonight or will the air be more stable over here by the time the storms arrive????

looks like it will be stable over there but you never really know. It will take alot of recovery to make it supportive of surface convection. However, even if the storms remain elevated to some degree, you can still be under the gun from some hail and high winds (just a few thousand feet up the winds are screaming)
