Plane Blown off Runway at BHM Airport

December 8, 2009, 9:12 pm | Bill Murray | Severe Weather

The ABC3340 Newsroom is reporting that a plane blew off a runway at the Birmingham Airport.

It is apparently a small plane.

One man was on board and apparently walked away.

More details as we get them.

Strong gradient winds continue across Alabama tonight outside the thunderstorms, averaging 15-30 mph with occasional stronger gusts. We are seeing quite a few reports of limbs and trees down.

Be aware of where any vulnerable trees or limbs might fall on your home tonight and plan accordingly.

  1. Jeff Says:

Just had a 10 second tropical storm force gust in eastern Birmingham. Hopefully the planes stay in the air. Must be some rough weather to land in at 4,000-5,000 feet.

  2. Sarai Says:

Ugg, would hate to fly in this weather. Actually, bet take off and landing would be the bad part.

  3. Scott Says:

On twitter, another B’ham area teevee station is saying that BHM is reporting 4+ hour delays just for turbulence.

  4. Mark Says:

Live airport info at the FAA site shows only a 15 min delay
