A New Toy to Test
ABC 33/40 is testing a new online, interactive radar application, and we want your help! It’s called StormAlert Interactive, it’s free, and if we get good reviews we will probably make it a permanent part of abc3340.com.
We were hoping to have this on the website last night, but we want you to check it out anyway! It will be here for at least two weeks while we test it and see how well it works.
So, leave us a comment, tweet, facebook message, or e-mail and tell us how you like it.

That is just amazing, very cool and useful. Very easy to understand. It should definitely be a part of the site! This is why abc3340 is the best!!!

December 9th, 2009 at 11:58 am
Jason-Looks great, can’t wait for the next event to play with it.
December 9th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
Fantastic! Love the ability to interact with the map. Would love for it to also be an iPhone app. Accuweather and Weatherbug are not always as current as ABC 33/40.
December 9th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
Great application!
December 9th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
All I can say is WOW, WOW and WOW. It is so good that I would gladly pay a monthly subscription fee to access.
December 9th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
this is great thank you
December 9th, 2009 at 12:19 pm
Very Cool…I’m loving it.
December 9th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
Oh! I love a new toy to play with. This is really great. I like being able to zoom in a specific areas. The overlay of the different types of precip will be very useful, especially when I’m having to travel.
December 9th, 2009 at 12:30 pm
very nice indeed!
December 9th, 2009 at 12:33 pm
Love this new radar tool. Love the overlays. Wish it would work on my blackberry storm model #9530.
December 9th, 2009 at 12:37 pm
Jason it is a keeper….
December 9th, 2009 at 12:54 pm

December 9th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
Could the wedge be set up over east alabama on Frid-Sat funneling the cold air our way?
December 9th, 2009 at 1:03 pm
Nice tool… Would be put to good use across Alabama I am sure.
December 9th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
Very cool. Please keep it available.
December 9th, 2009 at 1:33 pm
Doesn’t matter if 33/40 uses it. I’ve been using it on Itellicast for a while. http://www.intellicast.com/Local/Map.aspx.
December 9th, 2009 at 1:39 pm
This is a useful application. Is there a way to get to it without going to the abc 3340 website first. The ABC 33/40 website takes time to load before the application comes up. I have cable internet and ABC 3340 is the only site that takes a while to load.
December 9th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
Very cool!!! Can’t wait for some kind of event to play with it.(preferrably a white flaky cold one)
December 9th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
Yep intellicast has had it for a while, wonder if you’ll are getting it from the same source? Keep up the good work.
December 9th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
Two thumbs up!!
December 9th, 2009 at 2:02 pm
It is about time. Great product. Keep improving.
December 9th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
WOW!! That is too cool for words! The layers are great and the graphics are perfect. I would use it daily.
December 9th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
It’s nice but unfortunatley the one over on myfoxal.com is a little better. Sorry guys.
December 9th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
Great addition. Should probably be placed with a link at the top of the blog for easy access since most people come to the blog first.
December 9th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
The graphics are really good and it is user friendly.
December 9th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
WOW!!! I really like that! I will certainly use it.
December 9th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Been waiting for something like this to come along. I like it even better than Weather Underground, to be honest. Too bad we couldn’t test it last night. Awesome, awesome, awesome!
December 9th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
Sweet, alot more clean than the Weatherchannel/Bing Setup
December 9th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
WOW !!!COOL !!!Can not wait for next for the next storm to try the new Toy it out as the say its a keeper Thanks ABC3340 and all the Weather Team
December 9th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
I tried the Fox one when it first came out and didn’t like it b/c if you zoomed in close, the radar part disappeared. I don’t go to their site for weather info primarily, so when that didn’t work there, I never went back. Maybe they’ve fixed it by now, who knows. I like the bulk of info I can get all in one place here on the weather blog. Fox just doesn’t have it like James and crew does =). This app is just one more thing to add to the superb coverage. Keep up the great work guys =)!
December 9th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
Fantastic – the only improvement I’d make (if it were possible) would be to allow the choice of BMX, GWX, HTX, instead of just composite data. Not sure if that’s feasible in this type of application though.
Great stuff though!
December 9th, 2009 at 3:01 pm
The myfoxal.com app gets confused when I use my scroll button on my mouse…kinda like its trying to figure out if I am scrolling the page or zooming in & out. Not only that, but if you zoom in too close, the radar disappears. I really like this one here…it doesn’t give me those problems. It will definitely add to the superb coverage James & crew offers =)! Thumbs up on this one!
December 9th, 2009 at 3:09 pm
Absolutely love it! It looks like the one on Intellicast.com which I use. Very easy to use
December 9th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
Hey guys this is awesome. This would be great to access to during severe weather events. I hope you guys add it to your already amazing weather arsenal.
December 9th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
Yep!!! totally cool!!! just wish I could double click to zoom, rather than use the slide fader on the right… In the words of Rick&Bubba = keeper
December 9th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
This is a great feature!!
December 9th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
Love it! Have been using the interactive map out of WAPT in Columbus, MS for awhile. We especially like the weather icons and projected paths on that one. Would far prefer to access abc3340 for information, tho!! Thanks!
December 9th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
Sorry, I meant Jackson, MS.
December 9th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
Way too cool… gotta get back to it when I get finished with work and play with it some more. Great addition.
December 9th, 2009 at 3:51 pm
Good legibility for terrain zoom, Font too small for road markers (barely visible), Looping too slow even when “fast” selected (my DSL bandwidth is 3 Meg), Very good graphics, Should have real-time data like the Upstream Live site otherwise not very useful (the Nexrad Radar time delay is too long. The tornado/storm is always at my location 5-10 minutes before indicated on the radar.), Very good pan, drag, and zoom features, Needs TVS, VAD, and Velocity Product Data during storms
December 9th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
Seems OK for free, but I will use radarlab at weathetap.com
December 9th, 2009 at 4:44 pm
looks alot like the interactive radar on intellicast, will be useful
December 9th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
Its really cool like it very much
December 9th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
Excellent application. I think this should be a permanent addition to the site. Keep up the good work.
December 9th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
Love, best one ever. Keep it.
December 9th, 2009 at 5:37 pm
I like it guys wished you all would get an app for the website for the Iphone.
December 9th, 2009 at 5:59 pm
Very much like GR3, I think it will be a go!
December 9th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
LOVE IT !! LOVE IT !!!! LOVE IT !!!!
December 9th, 2009 at 8:01 pm
Very cool. I pay for a very similar service on Weather Underground. Would love to see this as an addition to the 33/40 site.
December 10th, 2009 at 11:40 am
New “toys” are always fun to play with!
After a quick look around and a little playing around with this one I must say that the ABC 33/40 weather crew has got to be one of, if not the, best Team in the entire state of Alabama.
As an Amateur Radio Operator and a member of the Calhoun County ARES/RACES Group where we monitor weather events, among other situations as well, that will include the surrounding areas, any tools that we can use to further enhance the safety of the general public during severe or inclement weather will be most useful.
The ease of use of this product is great and I hate to say it this way but I’ll be looking forward to using this during the next weather threat situation.
ABC 33/40 Weather Team thanks so much and keep up the continued excellent work.
