Alabama 811 | Know What's Below.

Early Afternoon Look

The severe weather threat is winding down for a large part of Alabama early this afternoon, but a tornado watch remains in effect east of a line from Anniston to Montgomery. We have seen broad rotation from time to time in this part of Alabama, but nothing especially tight, and no tornado warnings have been issued since mid-morning.

The deep shear needed for tornado development should be confined to Georgia and Southeast Alabama within the next one to two hours as the main threat shifts to the broad area from Atlanta to Dothan. For places like Birmingham, Gadsden, and Tuscaloosa, the risk of additional severe weather has pretty much ended.

BOTTOM LINE: We will still be watching for possible severe weather between now and 2:00 over Cleburne, Randolph, Clay, Chambers, Tallapoosa, and Elmore Counties. An isolated tornado is still possible.

FLOODING: Many reports of localized flooding problems across the state during the past 8 hours. A far flipped into a flooded ditch along I-59 North in Trussville late this morning; we are not sure if there were any injuries with that accident or not. Many small creeks and streams are still out of their banks, so be careful if you are driving through the Alabama countryside this afternoon.

We do note a cold pool aloft to the west, and that feature could bring scattered showers and storms to all of Alabama later today or this evening, but the main threat will be from hail due to the cold air aloft.

The first half of the week ahead will be cool and dry… next chance of rain comes late Thursday night and Friday, followed by much colder air.
