Remember the song by Eddie Rabbitt?

“Well, I love a rainy night
I love a rainy night
I love to hear the thunder
Watch the lightning
When it lights up the sky
You know it makes me feel good”

When I was poking around to find those lyrics, I learned that Eddie Rabbitt died from lung cancer at the age of 56 on May 7, 1998 in Nashville. Life sure is short.

TONIGHT: I don’t think lightning will light up our sky tonight with cool, stable air in place, but it will rain pretty much all night long, with additional rain amounts of 1 inch likely, with storm totals from 1 to 2 inches. Good sleeping weather. Winds will pick up a bit as a surface low passes just south of us, perhaps gusting to 20 mph at times late tonight.

TOMORROW: The heaviest rain will move to the east, but in the wrap around moisture on the back side of the storm we will mention a continued chance of some light rain or drizzle at times during the day. Temperatures will hover around 50 degrees pretty much all day tomorrow.

SATURDAY/SUNDAY: The weather turns colder Saturday; in fact it looks like a pretty raw day with a cloudy sky, a brisk north wind, and a chance of some morning drizzle. Temperatures will hold in the low to mid 40s most of the day. Sunday will brighter as the sun returns in full force, along with a high in the upper 40s.

NEXT WEEK: The parade of storms won’t go away; the next one will bring rain back to Alabama Monday night and Tuesday. Looks like this one will have the potential for about 1/2 inch of rain. Then, much colder air invades in the wake of that storm on Wednesday. Another storm system is due in here at the end of next week, about 8 days from now, and there will be great speculation whether that one can bring some snow and ice to parts of North Alabama. No skill in being specific at this stage of the game, of course. Watch the Weather Xtreme video for more on next week and other mid-month mischief.

STORM ALERT 2010 IS COMING TO WALKER COUNTY: Our annual severe weather rolls along; our next stop will be on Thursday February 11 at Bevill State Community College in Sumiton. You can meet the ABC 33/40 Weather team, see some amazing Alabama weather stories, learn how to keep your family safe this tornado season, and win some cool stuff. The show begins at 7:00; be sure and get there early to get a good seat. See the entire tour schedule here!

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.

LIVE CHAT: We are now offering a real time chat here on the blog… open blog comments will stay in place, of course, but this will allow a more immediate method of communication for weather geeks. We do have moderators posted over there, so be sure and play nice. Members of our weather team will be there from time to time to answer questions; we will post those times we are available here on the blog.

I had a great time today visiting with the students at Lineville Elementary down in Clay County; be watching for them on the Pepsi KIDCAM today at 5:00 on ABC 33/40 News! The next Weather Xtreme video will be posted by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow…

    From Atlanta.

    Update…
emergency management…media…and public reports indicating snow
is a bit heavier than expected across the northeast Georgia
mountains and has started to accumulate in some of the higher
elevations…with accumulations up to six inches being reported. NAM-
WRF model best depicting the area favorable for brief moderate to
heavy snow this evening along the ridge tops near southern
    Fannin/Union/towns and northern Dawson/Lumpkin/white counties.
That model shows surface temperatures and wet bulb temperatures climbing to near
or slightly above freezing by 06z tonight. In the meantime
though…additional accumulations are expected. Thus…a Winter
    Weather Advisory has been issued.

I do remember that Eddie Rabbit song really well, couldn’t remember who sang it though. Wish I had a copy of it still . . . back in the days of cassette tapes I had taped it off that old country station 101.1 FM who are now somewhere else with a much weaker signal. But they used to play that a lot of rainy nights . . . and it made me feel good. (smile)

  3. Alison M Says:

Oh, James – when will the parade slow down?
Just slow down by one or two days … or will it
all last just like this until the end of March?

So much work – so little time (between the rains).

Very sorry to hear about Eddie Rabbit. Short indeed.
Always waiting and wondering if we will hear again from
    some of these old friends.

To Matt, one word – iTunes. Possess it all.

Sorry Brent: When I first read your post I thought surely you jest. I just popped over to the Peachtree City website and saw that you were not. Are there really 6 inches in some places? If so and they are only issuing a Hazardous Weather Outlook I could only assume that they are expecting it to melt soon. Otherwise, I would think these guys were crazy and you need some new weathermen.

    Hi Dora

Brasstown Bald in the Ga mountain already has a foot, but you have to remember it is 5000 feet. It is a different world from Atlanta and only 80 miles/
