Few Flurries, A Little Sleet

February 6, 2010, 10:45 am | Bill Murray | Forecast Discussion

A few flurries and a little sleet have been reported across North Alabama this morning.

Drizzle has also been reported further south.

Mike Wilhelm (bamawx.com) reports flurries just south of the Tennessee River near Priceville, on the Morgan/Cullman County line.

Skywatcher Bill Lockridge reports sleet has been falling at Noccaula Falls in Etowah County.

The Skywatcher in Gold Ridge in eastern Cullman County also reports flurries.

No official reporting stations with precipitation in Alabama at this hour, but you could see drizzle, sleet or snow flurries into the early afternoon.

Temperatures are in the upper 30s to near 40 across Central Alabama, with mid 30s in the north. It will not get much warmer today than where you are right now, maybe 3-4 degrees at best.

“Wheres all the talk about global warming now?”

I hope you’re joking, because if not then you’re not very educated on the subject. Global warming is real, but the real question is, is it a natural cycle or is man “helping” it along? I tend to think it’s a natural cycle.

  6. Terrie Says:

I don’t believe in global warming and I’m very educated.

  7. doc Says:

I’m not going to get into the argument (he said/she said) on Global Warming aka. or Climate Change as some are now calling it. I do however, want to make a couple of observations. 1. In a week and a half I’ll be 62 years old, not that’s old but old enough to have a clear memory of over a half a century. 40 years ago I moved to Central Fla. Would go on a regular basis to Daytona Beach. 40 years ago people would park their cars on the beach then lay next to their cars on the beach. Traffic would go both ways north and south between the ocean and where the folks had park their cars and were sunbathing. We moved out of FLA in 1990 but with family we still go to Central Fl. We go to Daytona on each trip. Christmas 2008 we went to Daytona Beach. It HIT me then that I was seeing exactly the same seascape portrait I saw with no change in 38 years. I believe what my eyes saw. One change, the swimsuits on the young ladies are smaller than they were 38 years ago, although I did not look . 2. Models: I know climate science modeling is used to see what’s in our future. My view is while they continue to work on Climate Change models I would ASSUME they are continuing to try and improve on all the current weather models!!!
Current Weather close to Marietta, Ga. 36degrees, cloudy, with a ice pellet here or there.

To Doc: How old if you don’t mind me asking?? Note: Your name was my Grandpa’s nickname!!

  10. doc Says:

Dont mind telling you my age at all Wayne. Im 81 years Wise !! It’s not my intention at all to argue with anyone on the subject of global warming…some people say they believe that global warming is a cycle. Kinda like life, I guess?? :)

Thanks Doc! Doubt if you’ll be back on but I like the line OLDER AND WISER. As far as gaining wisdom, with life experiences, it has also made me a bit of a cynic. When I see peoples ego and pocketbooks being strechted over a particular situation I become quite cynical. Comes with being OLDER AND WISER!
Hope to see you on the blog more often.
    Regards-Wayne
