FLASH FLOOD WARNING – SHELBY COUNTY
Sorry to yell…but this is important.
Very dangerous situation tonight in Shelby County. Huge rainfall amounts have already been received and very heavy rainfall is forming again upstream, poised to move over the County again.
6 to 7 inch rainfall amounts are common on Doppler Radar estimates and these have been borne out by actual rainfall reports…
Here is what is upstream at 8:20 p.m. Everything is moving northeast.
Be alert if you live in a flood prone area and be ready to move to higher ground if flooding begins.
Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Do not drive into water that is standing or flowing. You do not know the integrity of the road underneath or the depth.
Remember…turn around…don’t drown!

Is the flooding in Shelby County going to affect the school buses in the morning, since the rain is still coming? Is there info on this?

This evening will present a flooding threat, but do the chances of a severe storm or tornado seem likely?

I am not sure Dustin, I am confused. Because a bunch of counties under Jefferson and Shelby are under tornado watch, and I thought we were good that way, and then the NWS puts us under slight risk for severe weather including tornadoes! Hey guys monitoring the weather and blog could you clarify the situation right now for everyone?? Thanks a ton

Please be careful if you are out in this weather. I live in Stonehaven in Pelham and have heard that Stonehaven Trail (the main through street) is closed. When I came home several hours ago, the creek by the neighborhood was almost ready to crest over the road. I have never seen it that full.

I remember going through the Flood of 98 when I was living in Texas. Tragically 30 people lost their lives due to flash flooding and flooding. I’m sure this is nothing close to that scale, but I hope everyone stays safe!

I would not be surprised to see some school cancellations tomorrow…especially Shelby County and maybe south Jefferson county like some of the Over the Mountain districts.

WOW. What just happened in Steele, AL?
There was a little thunder, a little lightening & then all of a sudden, there was a TON of marble sized hail & a terrible sound.. I’m not sure if it was the sound of the hail or the sound of the wind, but it was lound.. LOUD.

Has anyone driven Co Rd 39 in Chelsea? Some of the streams were already really high when I drove into work, now I’m worried about them being over the roads on the way home.

I’ve lived in Vincent all my life (36 Years) and have never seen this amount of rainfall. Multiple roads are covered in water(too many to list) and driveways are starting to erode fast. If you must travel please do so with extreme caution. Im also a trained storm spotter and this is a very dangerous situation. I urge you not to travel unless it is absolutely necessary. Rain gauge is coming up on 7.25 which is amazing as well.

Water was almost over the bridge on hwy 39 between winn Dixie and the railroad tracks in Chelsea about 8 15. Sheriffs were at the traffic light of 39 and 47.
