10:30pm Quick Update

July 26, 2010, 10:33 pm | J.B. Elliott | Forecast Discussion

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning and a Flash Flood Warning was issued tonight for Tuscaloosa County as a big area of intense thunderstorms spread northward through the county, including the downtown Tuscaloosa/Northport area. As of 10:30 tonight, 2.42 inches of rain had occurred at the 33/40 Skycam in downtown Tuscaloosa.

We had one report from that general area of 3 inches of rain in 30 minutes. We also got a report at 10:02 p.m. at the intersection of Bryant Drive and 14th Avenue in Tuscaloosa that the roads were completely flooded. Automobiles are having to turn around because the water is over the front bumper and it only gets deeper.

HOW ABOUT BIRMINGHAM METRO?
The Tuscaloosa storms are part of a band of storms that extend further toward the SE. Some of those showers and thunderstorms were beginning to spread northward into Shelby County and there is a good chance that Jefferson County will receive some good amounts of rain in the next hour or so.

We had flash flooding occuring in Tuscaloosa. I saw several cars trying to drive throguh several feet of water on 15th St, and I saw several cars stall out in the flood waters. I guess they never heard “turn around, don’t drown.” Will send pictures later if the power comes back on.

Gadsden on the east side of the river and we had a good rain today. Just thought you might like to know.
