SUMMER-LIKE WEATHER: Today’s weather should offer a good clue as to what you can expect on daily basis for the rest of the week. Highs in the 90 to 94 degree range, with partly sunny hazy days, along with the risk of isolated afternoon showers or thunderstorms. Of course, when we say “isolated”, that means most people won’t get wet with the showers being rather few and far between. The big moisture plume associated with former Tropical Storm Hermine will remain to the west and north of Alabama this week.

THE WEEKEND: A little model madness involving the position of a surface front; there is a chance a boundary might bring a little better coverage of scattered showers and storms at some point over the weekend, followed by drier and slightly cooler air by late Sunday and early next week. For now, we will maintain the risk of isolated showers and storms Saturday and Sunday with highs in the low 90s, followed by dry weather Monday and Tuesday of next week with highs close to 90 and lows in the 60s. We will fine tune the forecast as we get closer to the weekend.

TROPICS: Former Tropical Storm Gaston is hanging in there like a rusty fish hook south of Puerto Rico this afternoon. A number of the better dynamic models show no development, but a few hang on to the system, and ramp it up into a hurricane this weekend over the western Caribbean. I still think the key is how the system handles the interaction with Hispaniola in coming days. We will keep an eye on it. And, a pretty decent wave is in the far eastern Atlantic just off the coast of Africa; this looks rather disorganized at this point. Watch the Weather Xtreme video for details.
