CHILLY BREEZE: Most North Alabama communities are in the mid to upper 40s this afternoon with a brisk northwest breeze. Once the sun goes down this evening, temperatures will drop quickly, and we are projecting lows in the mid to upper 20s for most places early tomorrow. Some of the colder valleys across North Alabama will most likely visit the low 20s, and we just might hear of one or two spots at 19.

TOMORROW AND FRIDAY: We stay dry on these two days, with a good supply of sunshine each day along with a high in the mid 50s tomorrow, and close to 60 Friday. Friday morning will be cold with a low down in the mid 30s, with a freeze again for the colder valleys.

THE WEEKEND: A disturbance riding down the northwest flow over the Deep South might squeeze out a few sprinkles over Tennessee and extreme North Alabama late Saturday or Saturday night, but the moisture is so limited here that we really won’t mention any significant risk of rain in our formal forecast. The high Saturday will be close to 60, but in the wake of the passing disturbance Sunday will be colder with a high in the upper 40s.

SUPER SIX: Great football weather for the state high school football championship games in Auburn tomorrow and Friday. Afternoon temperatures will be generally in the 50s, while the night games will be played with temperatures falling through the 40s. The sky will be clear and there is no chance of rain.

SEC CHAMPIONSHIP: As always, we can promise no rain and light wind for the game, which is this Saturday in Atlanta pitting Auburn against South Carolina. But, outside the Georgia Dome, the sky will be partly sunny in Atlanta Saturday with a high in the upper 50s. Sunday will be dry and colder with a high in the 40s.

NEXT WEEK: Both the GFS and the ECMWF are in general agreement that next week will be cold and mostly dry. We will still have to keep an eye on an impulse coming out of the southern Rockies that might bring a few rain drops or snow flakes to parts of the Deep South, but the air will be very dry and I think the best forecast for now is a dry one. Highs will drop into the 40s with lows in the 20s, some of the coldest air we have seen so far this young cold weather season. We should note that today marks the beginning of meteorological winter.

VOODOO LAND: The pattern still looks cold through mid-December, and mostly dry. No sign of any severe weather issues with cold air in place, and very few opportunities for rain or snow advertised at this point.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
