Snow FAQ

*We are now projecting 1/2 to 1 inch of snow for much of North-Central Alabama, with isolated amounts to two inches.

*Morning rain should change to snow during the midday hours. The main window for snow will be from 12:00 noon Christmas Day through 12:00 noon Sunday.

*Surface temperatures should remain in the mid 30s during the day tomorrow, and roads should be generally wet with no travel issues. However, tomorrow night as temperatures drop below freezing and snow showers continue, bridges will become icy and travel a little difficult.

*The best combination of dynamic lift and moisture will be over East Alabama, where the NWS has issued a winter weather advisory (see the post below this one).

*Be sure and send your pictures of the snow tomorrow to: pictures@abc3340.com We will post those on the blog as they come in. I would image we might receive over 1,000 pictures tomorrow if this develops as we expect.

*Snow showers will continue well into the day Sunday with a deep upper trough over the region; the very cold air aloft will actually make the air unstable.

Will be a fun day tomorrow to watch this unfold… if we get enough snow to measure in Birmingham by midnight tomorrow night, it will be an historic Christmas Day. Let’s get some rest tonight, because I notice on the NORAD Santa tracker the jolly old man is in South America, and is only hours away!
