Off to our west, a line of thunderstorms continues to solidify this afternoon. The line extended from NW Alabama down through Central Mississippi to near New Orleans. Individual storms were moving NE, while the whole system was shifting toward the east.

NWS/Birmingham issued a Special Weather Statement (Significant Weather Alert) for Lamar County on Alabama’s western border until 1:30. Weather Service radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 6 miles north of Vernon near the Lamar County Airport moving NE at 25.

Could produce 35 mph winds and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning as it continues toward the NE at about 25 mph.

Still a lot of rain and thunderstorms near the Alabama/NW Florida coast and the Weather Service in Mobile has issued a Flood Advisory for Escambia, Okaloosa and Santa Rosa Counties in NW Florida until 3:00 p.m. CDT. Based on radar estimates, 5 to 6 inches of rain has fallen across the south parts of Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties with a few higher amounts. Additional 1 to 3 inch amounts were possible through mid-afternoon.
