Mississippi Storms a Little More than an Hour Away

Read down for a new warning for Lee and Russell Counties in East Central Alabama.

Here is the big picture from the Columbus MS radar. You can see the polygon for the Lee/Russell warning, even though the radar can’t “see” that far. Click on the image to expand it…

Of interest to us her in North Central Alabama is the line segment moving through North Central Mississippi. It has a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for it…and it could impact West Central and Northwest Alabama from northern Lamar County northward around 1245-1 a.m. Severe hail 1 inch in diameter or larger will be the threat as there storms are not surface based and don’t pose much of a damaging wind threat at all.

Also, closer to home, there are also noisy storm across northern Walker, much of Winston and into Cullman Counties at this hour. They are producing lots of heavy rain and lightning and thunder as well as some small hail.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING QUARTER SIZE HAIL…AND
DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THESE STORMS WERE LOCATED
ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM 5 MILES SOUTHWEST OF SMITHS STATION TO
5 MILES WEST OF RUSSELL COUNTY SPORTS COMPLEX…AND MOVING EAST AT
50 MPH.
