FROSTY MORNING POSSIBLE: We have a great setup tonight for radiational cooling across Alabama… which also means there will be a huge range of morning lows across the state tomorrow. While we are forecasting an average low of 36, the coldest valleys across North Alabama could very well reach the upper 20s. But, on ridges above 800 feet, the low could be 40 or higher. Most places will see a little frost, with the most widespread frost across the valleys and protected areas. If you are growing plants or other tender vegetation that might be harmed by frost, you will need to cover them up.

WARMER DAYS: Look for a good supply of sunshine tomorrow and Thursday with warmer afternoons… we reach the low 70s tomorrow, followed by upper 70s Thursday. Friday will be warm and humid as we climb into the low 80s. There will be a big increase in low level moisture, and a few scattered showers could break out during the peak of the daytime heating process. Nothing really widespread, however.

WARM WEEKEND: Look for low to mid 80s on Saturday and Sunday for summer preview. Humidity values will be high, and we won’t drop below 60 each morning. An upper ridge nosing into the state from the Gulf should keep us mostly dry Saturday, and any showers Sunday will be very widely spaced.

NEXT ROUND OF STORMS: See the Weather Xtreme video… the 12Z GFS continues to suggest a band of strong thunderstorms will blow through the state late Sunday night, perhaps in the period from 12 midnight to 6:00 a.m. Monday. The ECMWF is slower, showing the bulk of the rain during the day Monday, but the GFS performed much better with this past system.

Drier air moves back into the state by Monday afternoon, and Tuesday will be dry with a pleasant afternoon. Another stormy period is possible around April 14. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas.
