Late Evening Check

November 24, 2007, 9:46 pm | Bill Murray | Forecast Discussion

Rainfall continues to be mainly across the northern quarter of Alabama tonight. So far, radar estimates indicate amounts are well less than one quarter of an inch for the most part.

Showers were increasing back over Central Mississippi near I-55. Those will move into western Alabama later tonight.

The NAM model is in out to 84 hours and holds to its idea of keeping us mostly dry until Monday morning. The GFS is still wetter, but less bullish on rainfall until late Sunday night and Monday morning.

The possibility of severe weather will depend on how far north the richer instability of the warm sector reaches. For now, it appears that it will stay far enough south to keep Central Alabama out of the threat for the most part. But, it is a developing weather situation and one we will closely monitor through Monday morning.

In any case, heavy rain and some storms will enter western Alabama late Sunday night as the low moves north northeastward an dthe cold front advances toward the state. Rainfall amounts should still average about an inch with the main activity as it pushes across the state Monday morning ending from the west by afternoon.

The weather has played out well in Auburn tonight, with no rain so far. It has been windy and cool, however.
