Upper Ridge Becoming a Shield

On the bridge of the Weather Center Enterprise – raise the shields Mr. Spock! And issue the crew warm weather gear! Is the holodeck beach scene programmed into the computers. You have the helm, Mr. Zulu – I’m off for some beach fun!

Okay, okay, a little levity at the expense of Star Trek, but it sure looks like the atmosphere has raised the shields for an extended period of warmth and dryness. The upper ridge builds strongly across the area this weekend providing us with dry conditions and warm weather as the highs heat up into the lower 90s for much of the upcoming week. We will probably push the mid 90s by mid week, too. And even with the strong ridge occurring for the eastern half of the country, an equally strong trough holds over the West Coast. However, none of the short waves coming out of that trough seem to have enough power to do much to weaken the ridge for us.

The upper ridge does move west on Wednesday and Thursday providing a small weakness that might allow a few isolated showers to form in the warm air mass. However, while I mention this possibility, I do believe most of us stay dry. Time to get out the sprinklers if you have not already!

The upper ridge builds back eastward very strongly again on Friday and Saturday keeping all of the traveling weather system in southern Canada.

But wait, the GFS voodoo projections do provide a small amount of hope. The ridge appears to break down around June 8th providing us with a northwesterly flow that seems likely to drop temperatures back into the upper 80s. And the pattern remains relatively flat out through June 12th. Let’s hope this idea does not go away on the next model run!
