STORMS STAY WIDELY SCATTERED: Nice to see a few “pop up”, “splash and dash” type storms on radar yesterday afternoon. But, as expected, they were few and far between, and most of the Alabama countryside remained dry.

I don’t think the weather changes all that much through the weekend… hazy sunshine, highs in the mid 90s, and a few storms around every afternoon in widely scattered spots. The main day to day change will involved the placement and coverage of the afternoon storms, but no widespread rain is expected. Same ole same ole…

NEXT WEEK: The GFS is very persistent in the idea of the ridge breaking down a bit next week, shifting west, and allowing a chance for temperatures to come down a bit, and rain chances to go up a bit. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for this; it still won’t offer the kind of widespread rain we need, but we will certainly take a better coverage of afternoon showers and storms. In the model is right, we might even have a day or two late next week with the high is below 90. I will believe it when I see it, though… persistence is usually the best track to take in this stagnant summer pattern.

TROPICS: The Atlantic basin is quiet… over in the East Pacific, Adrian is expected to become a major hurricane tonight off the West Coast of Mexico, but it will remain over the open water and begin to weaken over the weekend as it moves over cooler water.

AT THE BEACH: No weather issues if you are headed toward the Gulf Coast… partly to mostly sunny days and fair nights are expected through the weekend with a few scattered showers and storms each day. Highs on the immediate coast will be in the upper 80s, with 90s inland. The sea water temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab early this morning is 83.5 degrees.
