Prayer Request
My good friend, Rick Burgess of the Rick and Bubba show, is dealing with a tragedy this morning; his two year son died last night of an accidental drowning.
Pray that God’s spirit would permeate their entire being, and will protect them from questions and doubts in the coming days.
More details on arrangements will be forth coming in the next few days………

My prayers are with the Burgess family. I some times wonder why God in his wisdom picks the most beautiful flowers when they are only just begining to come into bud. I just have to remember that he can give them protection in his arms like we never could. Please remember that your child is safe in the arms of God this morning and that God through Jesus Christ revers children when Jesus said to bring the little childrem to me.
I pray that God will give you understanding and wisdom to recieve the peace that is so abundant in his love. Remember that one day if our love for God and his Son Jesus will carry us through and you will be able to hold your loved little one again.
In Jesus name.

Our prayers go out to the Burgess family. My hubby has umpired their kids’ ballgames and I was Sherri’s RA in college. I will pray that they will keep their faith and be an honor and glory for God’s name during this time. Satan would that they would be the opposite because of their celebrity, but I trust Him that many will blessed by the Burgess’ faith! All our love.
January 20th, 2008 at 7:48 am
My prayers will go out to there family as they deal with this loss god bless you and your family.
January 20th, 2008 at 7:54 am
I pray for God’s peace that surpasses all understanding. I pray for comfort and strength. I pray that the enemy would be bound. I pray that God would surround them with loving and supportive people that would be able to minister to them in special ways.
January 20th, 2008 at 7:56 am
I was (as we all were,) shocked to hear this news. My prayers are definitely with Rick & Sherri and the rest of the staff during this time. We also need to pray that Rick will be able to withstand the temptation of Satan to curse God and blame him for this tragedy God is not the author of confusion…Satan is. It would make Satan so happy if rick turns to “other means” to try and heal his grieving and change back into “old Rick;” but God is faithful and I feel just as important as it is to pray for their grieving, it’s just as important to pray that God give Rick the peace that will allow him to to continue to be a powerful witness for Him.
January 20th, 2008 at 7:57 am
I know that we can find no reason for this type of tragedy to a man and woman who live their lives for God. I pray that all who have been uplifted and encouraged by this example of God’s plan for us as individuals and a family can now hold them up through prayer and that they somehow can feel the assurance of God’s grace that they have given to so many others.
January 20th, 2008 at 7:57 am
Do we know what happened?
January 20th, 2008 at 8:02 am

So, so sorry. The death of a child is a true tradgedy. Having experienced it in our life all I can say is hold on to God (and when that gets hard, let Him hold on to you). Gosh….I really don’t know what to say. What can you say? Having a child of my own, I simply cannot fathom the pain and loss. I cannot be sincere enough in saying my deepest condoleneces go out to this wonderful family.
January 20th, 2008 at 11:32 am
I am an R&B listener here in Florida. My B’ham friend & sister in the Lord Marti called me with this unthinkable, tragic news and I am heartbroken. I can’t imagine what the family is going thru. That includes the radio family and all the close friends the guys have made thru the years. All they can do, is stand on The Word and allow God to hold them & help them. They need all our prayers now. This prayer chain needs to reach across the state & the whole country. We stand on The Rock thru this dark valley. God is Love and we can’t understand His ways, but we CAN trust that He KNOWS what we suffer. We know that He gave His ONLY Son that we might live eternally.
Lord, help them……Amen
January 20th, 2008 at 11:36 am

I am not a regular e-mailer, but I feel compelled to say something. I listen to Rick and Bubba a minimum of 2 hours daily (I am on the road a lot). I truly feel like they are a member of my family and my wife and I had a good cry this morning. Rick’s views on life parallel mine to the point that my wife and I laugh about it daily after Rick brings up something that I do as well. That being said and putting myself in his shoes, he and his family are in a tough place right now with a lot of questions that they want answered. //GOD…please bless them and keep them and lay your hands upon them and give them peace and understanding in this time of extreme pain and anguish.//
You guys put a lot of joy in my family’s life. I only want the same for you.

My family is absolutely floored at the news; we’ve listened to them for many years and they’re such a wonderful contribution to Southern, and especially Alabamian culture. Our hearts ache for their family. May the Lord let them feel his awesome love and the peace he can give in these unexplainably tragic times.
January 20th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
To anyone reading this who has never listen to Rick and Bubba in the morning on wzzk FM, let me tell you they are the quintessential southern, God loving family. This is such a terrible day for us all. I am still walking around stunned and sad. I can’t think of anyone but them today…..

Our Sunday School class @ FBC-Columbiana prayed this morning for the Burgess family. So many of us listen daily to the show; as a result, we have seen and heard all the Burgess/Bussey/Wilburn children grow up and all feel the loss. I do not pretend to know what they’re going through, but know that all of you are in our prayers. While we do not understand why this has happened we do know that God is in control and He is there even in the dark times.
January 20th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Words can’t express what my heart feels for you. I have thought of your family so many times today and each time I lift you up to the Lord and pray for peace and help for you. I pray you find strength through the many prayers of your brothers and sisters in Christ being lifted up for your family today and in the days to come.
January 20th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
We will lift you and your family up in our prayers daily. Our God is an awesome God and he will take care of the Burgess family because of their faithfulness to him. “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” Matthew 19:14
January 20th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
I heard the news this morning and have been walking around the house all day doing laundry, etc. and every few minutes it hits me again. I am so sad for Rick and Sherri and their other children. It’s encouraging to see all the blog posts offering prayers for them.
January 20th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
I just wanted to say that while Satan will try to take advantage of this situation bringing up the why’s and how’s of the tragedy, I know God can lift this family up past those questions. And with the Army coming together and praying for all of them, there is no greater love and comforter than our Lord.
I pray peace be with the family.

Prayers have been and are being said for Rick’s family by the Wilhelm family. This is unimaginable to me and sad beyond description. Fortunatly Rick and his family know the only One who can bring peace that passes all understnding.
January 20th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Snow Miser, I find it incredibly rude and insensitive of you to make those comments, please keep those things to yourself. And just for your information, the God of the Universe whose power and ability to listen you are calling into question is indeed the one who spoke all of creation into existence and I am quite confident in saying that if He can do that He can listen to the prayers of those of us who call out to Him. He see each tear that falls and He does hear every person who calls on His name.
January 20th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
I too have listened for years. I was there with you on the radio when your son was born. Only God knows why he would need Bronner back home so soon. I pray for the entire Burgess Family, I feel like you’re a part of my family. I pray for you Sherri, as a mother, may God bless you and keep you strong. I pray for the siblings of Bronner, what a horrific loss for them. I pray for you Rick, I know you’re strong, but this is heavy…good news, God is stronger and he will carry you at this time. Stay by God’s side and let him wipe your tears. You’re not alone.

The prayers of many are with the Burgess family today, and its only by His strength and comfort that they will be able to weather this storm, so I just remind everyone to hold strong to anchor we have in Christ, it holds firm. Nothing in this life can take us out of His hand. God bless everyone effected by this tragedy.
January 20th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
God bless you Rick & Sherry. Bronner was a beautiful child and God needed a special Angel yesterday!!
January 20th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
That they have God in their life, helps me to be sure that they knew that happened had reason. No one is taken so young unless there is purpose.
A very sad note, but revel in the all-too-short life that he had. You’ll have those memories forever and can cherish them for as long as you are here in this world.

All of us are hurting over this tragedy. It is human to question “why”?
I’ve seen it questioned why satan has seemed to be after our children.
As believers we must remember he is prince of this world. So why would he
want to hurt us? Because it hurts the heart of God; his enemy – who loves us
so.
We have armor in the word and comfort through the Holy Spirit and prayer.
May God bless and help the dear families and all of us who grieve for
them.
January 20th, 2008 at 4:55 pm

May God’s mercy and love be with this family along with Bubba and all the friends/co-workers and Rick and Bubba army who have learned to love and become a part of this family. We will not always understand God’s will but we must trust that He is in control and it is all a part of His perfect plan.

Just returned from Gatlinburg and I am shocked and hurting for ALL those involved. What a loss? What can be said that’s appropriate at a time like this? I don’t know, and other than to commit them them to the wonderful, loving arms arms of our heavenly Father, and ask that the “peace that passes all understanding” envelopes them, there is so little than can be humanly done. I feel and grieve for them tonight.

I lost a child in a terrible tradegy when he was 18 months old,
I know your heartache and pain, time will heal the heart but it takes a long long time. My heart goes out to you and know what you are going through. Time will help but it never goes away. I am thinking of you in this tradegy.

May the grace and love of the Father be felt in the hearts and lives of the Burgess family as they travel through this period of darkness.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Burgess family during this horrible tragedy. Look to God for your strength, he will bring you through it!
January 20th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
I can not imagine the hurt, pain and loss that Rick and Sherri and their family is feeling. As Christians we know that God has a plan for all of us and His plan is perfect, but a tragedy like this still hurts so deeply. My prayers are with the family and I believe that God feels their pain and loss as well. I pray that Rick and his family will pray for strength and peace as they deal with this tragedy.I pray that they will find solice in knowing that God is in control and that He will help them through this time of bereavement.I am so deeply sorry for this terrible loss. They will be in my prayers.

WE ARE ALL PRAYING FOR THE BURGESS FAMILY AND THERE LOST.
January 20th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
May God surround you with his great love and give you the peace and comfort you need right now.
January 20th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
I pray for the Burgess family, you know when you listen to the show just about every weekday, you build a friendship, I mean you feel like you personally know them. You hear what goes on their lives day to day as you listen to the show, so when something like this happens it really hurts like one of your closest friends or relatives has had this tragedy, and we as fans, especially those of us who have been there for years feel the pain just as it was our own family. May God comfort you in this time of loss and you and your family are in our prayers……Dennis DeShazo & family.

WZZK was never the same after Patti and Dollar Bill left…although Patti and the Doc could never be topped. Rob and Shannon on Magic 96 are good to listen to in the mornings.
January 20th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
May God Bless Their Family,
The Bible Says in Rev 21: God shall wipe away their tears and there will be no more death nor sorrow nor pain.
January 20th, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Just hold on to Romans 8:28. We are praying for you during this time.
January 20th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
I don’t know what to say. There are no words. There is nothing that we can do but pray; and pray we will. We have been listening to Rick and Bubba for years and feel as if we know them personally. We pray that Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior will reach down His comforting hand as only He can do at this time and just let the Burgess family know that He is with them and He is in control.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Someone on the al.com page asked that R&B listeners tie a baby blue ribbon on their car antennas for one week to honor Bronner. I think this is a kind and thoughtful gesture. It is in a time like this that we can give back to the Burgess family.
January 20th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
ABC 33/40 and James Spann – I salute you. I just finished watching your 10:00 news story on the loss of this child. Unlike another channel, you did not cut the Lord, our Saviour, out of your broadcast. Bubba was very clear in mentioning the faith of the Burgess family – and I applaud you for not cutting those most important comments. On another channel’s website, the play an interview with Bubba where he also mentions this family’s faith; however, when the interview reached their news broadcast, not one single time was this faith mentioned. You are truly have the best news staff in Alabama. Keep the faith and give God the glory.

No words will help ease the pain and suffering you are going thru now but, my prayers and thoughts are with you and your family Rick.
January 20th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
May GOD be with the Burgess family during this very hard and tragic time. Our prayers are with you!! Thanks 33/40 for not editing out Bubbas comments on the Lord like other stations did. That is the cornerstone of the Burgess’s life is the Lord, anyone who listens to the show knows Rick’s testimony about our Lord and Savior. Bronner has already seen the face of our Savior!! PLEASE PRAY FOR RICK B., THE BURGESS FAMILIES, THE FIRE&RESCUE SERVICE, PARAMEDICS, BUBBA FAMILIES, WZZK FAMILIES, ABC3340 FAMILIES, AND ALL OF US, DURING THIS TIME OF SORROW. MAY GOD BLESS EVERY ONE OF US, BUT MORE TO BURGESS.

Our Prayers & hearts go out to the Burgess family in this time of great sorrow. May God be with them & comfort them.
January 21st, 2008 at 2:30 am
The Burgess family will continue to be on my heart in in my prayers. I have never met them personally but there testimony and joy filled attitudes have comforted me as if I did. I pray and know that God will use all of this for his glory and to the good of all who serve him.
2 Corinthians 1: 4- 6″Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.”

We cannot beging to imagine the pain your are dealing with this morning. Our family listens to you everyday on the radio, and we feel we know you all personally. Our thought and prayers are so strongly with your family! I wish I could put into words how our family feels for your loss but cannot. May God bless your family.
January 21st, 2008 at 9:14 am
Rick, Sherri and the Burgess children — you are in our thoughts and prayers. We heard the sad news in our Sunday School class at Metro COG yesterday morning, and you have many, MANY people praying for you.
I cannot begin to imagine what you are going through, but my husband does as he went through this almost 10 years ago himself. God gave him comfort through the scriptures, prayers and support of other people, and He will do that for you as well.
Though we do not understand right now, He can and will use this for good somehow. Matthew couldn’t see or understand how any good could possibly come from Nathan’s death at first, but he has since seen lives changed and saved as a result of his story. He still misses him almost 10 years later, yet he knows Nathan wouldn’t come back if he could. He and Bronner are where we all are aiming to be one day.
Hang in there guys. You are loved. Let God wrap His big arms around you.
God bless!

There was a little flower
Bronner was it’s name.
He was full of fun and laughter
And loved to play lots of games.
His dad was his best friend
A really big kid at heart.
His mom was his cuddlebug
And loved him from the start.
He was a little boy
Who loved his family mightily.
He loved to run and be outside
And take hold of life tightly.
But then God decided
To take little Bronner home.
It’s hard for us to understand
And not stand around and groan.
Little Bronner will be missed
But always loved and remembered.
As the little one God sent
To fill us up with love and laughter.
In honor and memory of Bronner Burgess.
May God bless and keep you and may his light shine upon you and give you peace.

My prayers go out to the entire Rick and Bubba family. My God watch over and bless each of you thru this trying time.
January 21st, 2008 at 11:55 am
Pray for their other children as well.
I lost an older brother when I was 15. It was devastating to the entire family. The children can experience not only a loss of a sibling but the loss of their parents they so truly love and need. Their sense of security is threatened. Their way of life has been turned on its head.
If anyone else very close this family reads this and this is welcomed, offer your help and love to these children. It can be very lonely. Pray for them at every moment.
I am sorry!

Hey, all my brothers and sisters in the Rick and Bubba Army, let’s give back to them through donations that have been set up at the Scott Dawson Evangelistic ministry. We all want to do something, and this is something tangible we can DO. If every single person in the RickandBubba Army gave of themselves, even a little bit, imagine what it can do!! I know they have been there on many a gloomy day for me and cheered me up, now it’s our turn to be there for them. I don’t have much, but I will give the most I can. Together,we can have a mighty big impact and the eternal impact and legacy of “Cornbread” will outlive all of us. LET’S DO IT FOR THEM, whadda say? Make that contribution now and don’t wait. I’m going to do it right now myself.

To the Burgess Family:
I cannot begin to understand how much pain you must be in at this sad time, but please know that there are many, many people who are lifting you up in prayer. God can provide comfort and strength for you and I know that He holds your son in His loving embrace. I pray that He will ease your pain and bring comfort to you and your family.
January 21st, 2008 at 2:54 pm
For future reference, the folks in your local Compassionate Friends chapter and the great crew at Amelia House at Children’s Hospital are great sources of bereavement support and understanding.
January 21st, 2008 at 3:52 pm
It is impossible for Me or anyone else to say “I know how you feel”. All I can say is I share your sorrow. My (and My family’s) prayers and thoughts are with you. Trust in the Love of God to get you through these times. He will. He did Me.
January 21st, 2008 at 9:51 pm
We’ve never met, but from listening to you on the radio for so many years, I feel like I know you. And it’s because of this, my heart sincerely breaks for you and your family.
I cannot claim to imagine the grief you are feeling. All I can offer you is my heartfelt condolences and the knowledge that you and your family are in my thoughts.
January 21st, 2008 at 10:14 pm
We pray that God’s strength and love with sustain you each and every day. Although we cannot begin to imagine your pain, our family has weathered many storms with our daughter’s medical condition. Even though it is not always easy, we have learned to praise God through all storms. The Casting Crowns song “Praise You in this Storm” has a wonderful message. Some of the most comforting parts of this song to us are:
And I’ll praise you in this storm
and I will lift my hands
for You are who You are
no matter where I am
and every tear I’ve cried
You hold in your hand
You never left my side
and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm
I lift my eyes onto the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth
May our precious Lord uphold you.

My prayers are with the Burgess family. I can not imagine the pain that you must be going through because I have two beautiful children of my own. All we can do is cherish them every day that they are here, and count our blessings.May God Bless you and your family.

God is Speaking
Have you ever heard a love song, that set your spirit free?
Have you ever watched a sunrise and felt you could not breathe?
What if it’s Him. What if it’s God speaking?
Have you ever cried a tear that you could not explain?
Have you ever met a stranger who already knew your name?
What if it’s Him. What if it’s God speaking?
Who knows how He’ll get a hold of us?
Get our attention to prove He is enough.
He’ll do, and He’ll use whatever He wants to.
To tell us, I Love You.
Have you ever lost a loved one
Who you thought should still be here?
Do you know what it feels like
to be tangled up in fear?
What if He’s somehow involved?
What if He’s speaking through it all?
Who knows how He’ll get a hold of us?
Get our attention to prove he is enough.
He’ll do and He’ll use whatever He wants to
To tell us, I love you.
His ways are higher
His ways are better
Though sometimes strange
What could be stranger than God in a manger?
Who knows how He’ll get a hold of us?
Get our attention to prove He is enough.
Who knows how He’ll get a hold of you?
Get your attention to prove he is enough.
He’ll do and He’ll use whatever He wants to,
To tell us I love you
God is speaking, I love you

To the All the Family and Friends of Rick and Sherri Burgess:
Just letting you all know that loyal listeners and fans are continuing to pray for you all, knowing as the one of the many who are believers, that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will see you through it.
God Bless you all….

I am praying for you and your family. God bless your family and may you find strength in him.
January 23rd, 2008 at 7:06 am
I hope that every married couple in America will see your courage and learn from the two of you. You and sherri have shown such wisdom and grace in this tragic event. I believe that the lord, through your family will touch many lives and have already. Thank you for being the christian example that this country needs.
January 23rd, 2008 at 10:20 am
It is truly amazing how God is working in this situation. I just know that people all over this country are coming to know Christ because of this precious little boy. I praise God – not because of Bronner’s death, but because of his life and the life of his family. I praise God that we have hope and know that we will see Bronner one day soon. I praise God that even though I am a miserable excuse of a Christian – He still loves me and has given me another day to live for Him. My hear breaks for Rick and Sherri and the other kids, but I know that they will get through this because they have the ultimate comforter and healer of the broken hearted supporting them at this time.
With prayers,
The Harless Family
