East Coast Quake Felt Over East Alabama

A number of reports are coming in from social media that the 5.9 quake over northern VA was felt over East Alabama. Did you feel it?

    Boy did I feel it here in DC! Lasted about 25 seconds. I was afraid it was a big explosion. The walls of the hotel were swaying! Chandeliers were swinging nearly 180 degrees. Amazing experience…

    Three of the pinnacles atop the National Cathedral fell but damage is light.

    My sister lives close to Reading, PA and they felt it pretty good there. She also says there are gas leaks and they’ve got several bridges/buildings closed.

    I know underground mining is a big industry in that area of the country. Has anyone heard if all miners are accounted for?

    Atlanta got rocked pretty good……….A friend of mine who works at the Westin Peachtree Plaza said they evacuated the 73rd restaurant chandeliers were swaying rapidly back and forth.

    Felt nothing here in northeast AL (north tip of Blount Co.) and I know exactly what I was doing when they said it hit yet, I don’t remember feeling a thing.

    We felt it in Trussville AL. Very light swaying but did feel it.
