James, what causes these “illegal” tornadoes? No watches, no warnings, no sirens, no wind, no thunder, no rain, and not even the famous cloud rotation-just a cool rainy day and BOOM-tornado!

  2. Shep says:

Great catch on the picture Jason. I live 3 miles North of there ( Country Club Drive area ) and the wind was not even blowing. Those darn sneaky little spin ups.

  3. James Spann says:

Tornadoes in tropical rain bands are low topped, under the radar, weak, and short lived. Warnings are very difficult… if not impossible…

  4. Jane Doe says:

    Dear James,
WHERE WERE YOU!? THERE WAS A TORNADO IN MY FRONT YARD!! AREN’T YOU PEOPLE SOPPOSED TO KNOW WHAT IS HAPENING?

    Thank You,
    A Conserned Fellow

  5. Auburnfan says:

I think James explains above why you weren’t informed. No need to be rude to him

  6. Renee says:

Thank you Mr. Spann for all the diligent, hard work you do! You truly have a God given talent.
I live in Rainbow City and was shocked when I pulled up your page and just had to go see the damage and yes, there was damage.
    God bless you

  7. Flippy says:

I agree about the rudeness. Sorry James, not everyone here in Rainbow City is that rude (or such a bad speller). No way to call this one. I am less than 1/4 mile from City Hall and had no wind whatsoever. I could throw a rock and hit the barn that was damaged behind City Hall. It lasted all of 5 minutes.

  8. Sarcasmo says:

Rude? Nah, that Jane Doe fellow just has a very sarcastic sense of humor! :P

  9. SnoLuvr says:

We live behind RBC City Hall, felt the wind, heard the trees popping, yet know these things can’t always be called beforehand. Sorry for bad representative of our city. We appreciate your dedication, Mr Spann and all the team.

I was at a baby shower next to city hall. The winds were blowing sideways and heavy rainfall. We looked out the side door and there was 5 gallon buckets floating around in the air along with leaves, limbs and pine needles. Needless to say a few of us went to the hallway. We was listening for a siren but it never sounded. Thank you lord there were no injuries. Just trees down and shingles off of some roofs. It didn’t last long. Maybe 6-8 minutes. Mother nature was just playing around this afternoon.

  11. Ron Norris says:

Young neighbor saw the RBC tornado drop from the clouds and come across my yard between my house and the Old Harmony Cemetary. It then crossed Lister Ferry Road and went right toward City Hall. Not sure it ever actually touched down as most of the damage appeared to have been caused by the wind a little above ground. All I heard was a strong wind and when I looked out I’d never seen wind blow so hard. Never thought about it being a small tornado.

  12. Gary Watson says:

I live behind city hall just about 75 yds from the barn that was damaged. I was in the back yard grillin steaks under a pop up canopy when the wind started blowing hard toward the SE and then blew even harder back the oppsite direction. I had one hand on the pop up canopy and one hand on the grill as tree limbs hit the ground, pool umbrella came flying my way and the neighbors kids trampoline flew over their fence. I’m glad no one was hurt and it was over in minutes.
