Showers Return Tomorrow

THIS AFTERNOON: We have a classic mix of sun and clouds across Alabama this afternoon with temperatures generally in the 60s around here. We do note Montgomery has risen to 71 degrees at 2:00… not bad for the last day of January. Nothing on the radar.

TOMORROW: A short wave will bring a chance of showers to the state tomorrow. Nothing severe, nothing heavy. Amounts will be less than 1/2 inch, and the showers will end late tomorrow night.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: These two days are looking generally dry and mild. Mixed sun and clouds both days with highs very close to 70 degrees. Just like spring.

WEEKEND SHOWERS: A deep upper low will set up over the nation’s mid-section over the weekend, and we will need to mention a chance of showers over the weekend. The 12Z global runs hint the best coverage will be on Saturday, and there could be some thunder involved. But the severe weather threat looks very small for now, and rain not especially heavy. The 12Z GFS actually tries to bring cooler and drier air in here Sunday with highs dropping into the 50s, but for now we will keep the chance of showers in the forecast with milder afternoon temperatures.

NEXT WEEK: Monday remains somewhat of a mystery, with the GFS dry and cool, and the ECMWF showing a soaking rain. We will tend to side with that wetter ECMWF for now and keep a chance of rain and storms in the forecast Monday. Then, drier and somewhat cooler air returns to Alabama Tuesday and Wednesday.

VOODOO LAND: The operational GFS showing no major cold snaps or winter storm threats here through mid-February as the NAO remains generally positive. See the Weather Xtreme video for details and graphics.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Scroll down for the show notes on the new episode we recorded last night.
