BIG CHANGES: Today is a breezy and warm today across Alabama; Montgomery has reached 80 degrees at mid-afternoon, with Birmingham not far behind at 78. But, not far away, a sharp cold front has passed through Memphis, where they have dropped to 54 degrees. Dyersburg, TN is down to 48 at 2:00 with a chilly north wind and light rain.

ON THE RADAR: Showers have moved into Northwest Alabama, we will forecast a good chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight as the cold front slowly passes through the state. SPC has removed Northwest Alabama from their “slight risk” tonight, which is a good call… severe weather just won’t happen in this environment. Rain amounts tonight should be generally in the 1/2 inch range.

RAW DAY TOMORROW: Looks like a day with low clouds, occasional light rain, and temperatures only in the 50s… a good twenty degrees cooler than today. The rain should end from west to east during the midday hours.

OUR WEEKEND: Looking pretty good, actually… Saturday looks mostly sunny and warmer with a high in the mid to upper 60s as dry air takes over. Even Sunday now looks generally dry, as the 12Z GFS keeps most of the rain west of Alabama. A much better looking weekend compared to the idea we threw out earlier this week.

NEXT WEEK: A warm and moist airmass will cover Alabama much of next week, but with little dynamic support any showers should be pretty widely spaced; I would suggest most of the week will be dry. Look for highs in the mid to upper 70s, with some places touching 80 degrees at times.

LONG RANGE/VOODOO LAND: Still no sign of any late season cold snap, winter weather mischief, or severe weather for Alabama for the next two weeks. Watch the Weather Xtreme video for complete details.

AT THE BEACH: For the area from Panama City west to Gulf Shores, we are now expecting 5 to 7 hours of sunshine Saturday through Monday, with highs in the 70s. The rest of next week looks generally dry with only isolated showers. All in all a great week for those on spring break.
