Warnings Being Allowed to Expire
All of the severe thunderstorm warnings issued by Birmingham for Marion, Winston, Walker and Jefferson will be allowed to expire at 6:30.
They will be replaced with significant weather alerts, which are one level below a warning.
The storms will still pack a punch with hail to the size of nickels, lightning and strong gusty winds as well as very heavy rain.
An areal flood advisory has been issued for Walker and Winston Counties. One hour rainfall totals (not rates) are approaching three inches on the county line between Nauvoo and Arley.
The NWS Huntsville will maintain a severe thunderstorm warning for Franklin County. This storm is between Phil Campbell and Hackleburg. It will move down into Marion County and we will have to see if the NWS Birmingham goes with a significant weather alert or severe thunderstorm warning when it does.
A strong storm passing over the Columbus MS radar site will move into Lamar County AL shortly. It will pass between Sulligent and Vernon. Expect strong gusty winds and hail to the size of nickels.
