HIT AND MISS STORMS: Today’s weather won’t be much different than yesterday; a very moist and unstable airmass is hanging over Alabama, and with the daytime heating process we expect the radar to light up with showers and thunderstorms in scattered spots by early afternoon. Unfortunately, there is no way I can tell you at 6:00 this morning when and where it will rain this afternoon… that is just a limitation of the science. But, the odds of any one neighborhood getting wet are about one in three, and most of the showers and storms will come from noon to 9:00 p.m. Afternoon highs will reach the low to mid 90s, but where showers form there will be some nice temporary cooling.

REST OF THE WEEK: We still project the best coverage of showers and storms to come on Thursday and Friday; due to the impact of an upper low just to the east, and a weak front stalled just to the north. It won’t rain all day on these two days, but it could rain anytime with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. Some spots might not get out of the 80s on Thursday and Friday where showers form early in the day.

WEEKEND FORECAST: The front to the north will wash out, and the upper low will dissipate, so showers and storms should thin out a bit Saturday and Sunday, but no doubt we will need to hang on to the standard chance of “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and storms” both days with a high in the low 90s. Another words, very standard mid-summer weather for Alabama.

That is pretty much the story for the first few days of next week.

AT THE BEACH: The coverage of showers and storms will be a little higher for Destin and Panama City through mid-week due to the upper low just to the east; storms will be more scattered to the west for places like Pensacola and Gulf Shores. Highs will be generally in the upper 80s along the immediate coast, and the sea water temperature is running in the mid 80s. For the weekend ahead, we will forecast the usual 6-8 hours of sun each day with the risk of a passing shower or storm Saturday and Sunday.

TROPICS: All remains very quiet across the Atlantic basin and tropical storm formation is not expected through the week.
