Showers Forming Early On This Labor Day

| September 3, 2012 @ 5:36 am

Showers and storms have developed in the last two hours over the northwestern quarter of Alabama. The activity is generally northwest of I-59. It is moving southeast.

Not much lightning yet, except over southern Pickens County, south of Carrollton and northern Lamar County, north of Vernon.

The showers and growing in coverage and intensity and will continue to affect much of the northern half of the state through the morning hours.

The SPC has about the middle third of the state included in their standard slight risk severe weather outlook for today. A few storms could become severe this afternoon in areas south of a line from Vernon to Warrior to Jacksonville. Wind damage will be the primary threat. Can’t rule out an isolated tornado, but the chance is very, very small.
