I took this picture of Lower Manhattan a few weeks ago from atop the Empire State Building. I was moved to tears when I visited Ground Zero, and St. Paul’s Chapel, where original fire fighter uniforms, photos, messages, and countless letters from children can be found. On 9/11, there were no Republicans, Democrats, or anything else. We were all Americans for once. Let us never forget.

ANOTHER DELIGHTFUL DAY: Another comfortable morning; Vic Bell just northeast of Gadsden on our Skywatcher team reports 53 degrees as I write this before 6 a.m. The day ahead will be sunny with a high in the mid 80s, and the weather won’t change very much through Thursday.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Moisture levels will rise a bit, and we will mention a slight risk of a shower, but I honestly don’t think rain will be widespread or really significant.

The latest runs of the GFS look drier for the weekend. Yes, enough moisture for showers, but very little dynamic forcing, and nothing more than isolated showers. The days will feature a mix of sun and clouds with highs remaining in the mid 80s, not too far from average values for mid-September in Alabama.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For the fans traveling to Fayetteville for Saturday’s Alabama-Arkansas football game, the weather looks great up there Saturday, with a partly sunny sky and game temperatures in the 70s. For the Auburn game against ULM at Jordan-Hare Stadium, only about a one in five chance of a shower with temperatures mostly in the low 80s.

TROPICAL WEATHER: Tropical Storm Leslie is scooting past Newfoundland this morning; St. Johns just reported a wind gust of 71 mph. Tropical Storm Michael is dying in the middle of nowhere, and a new system should become Tropical Storm Nadine, but it is a high latitude system and should remain in the middle of nowhere.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Scroll down for the show notes on this week’s new episode.
