CLOUDS DEPARTING: After a cloudy, cool, and wet morning for some, the clouds are departing nicely across Alabama this afternoon. Low clouds continue over the northeast counties, where Fort Payne reports only 52 degrees at mid-afternoon. To the south, however, where the sun is shining, Montgomery is reporting 71. There is no rain on radar, and it looks like a very quiet weather period for Alabama over the next 7 to 10 days.

REST OF THE WEEK: Our weather will be brighter and warmer. We will see a high near 70 tomorrow, followed by mid to upper 70s Wednesday. A new surge of cooler air will drop the high about 5 degrees on Thursday, down into the low 70s, but then we rebound to near 80 by Friday afternoon. Days will be mostly sunny, and nights mostly clear.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Looking mostly warm and dry. Partly to mostly sunny days with a high between 80 and 83 degrees Saturday and Sunday thanks to an upper ridge over the Deep South. A weakening front might bring a shower Sunday night, but for now with very limited moisture it looks like just a small risk.

We should start next week with warm and dry weather on Monday and Tuesday. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas.

FOOTBALL PEEK: Many questions from football fans about weekend weather with both Alabama and Auburn being on the road. Alabama will travel to Columbia, MO for a game Saturday afternoon at 2:30… a strong system moving out of the plains, and will bring a good chance of showers and thunderstorms to the I-70 corridor during the game. We will keep you posted as the week progresses. Auburn will be in Oxford to take on the Ole Miss Rebels; for now the day looks warm and dry in North Mississippi with temperatures possible reaching the mid 80s during the game.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. A very interesting show is ahead tonight as we discuss the Weather Channel’s plan of naming winter storms. Bryan Norcross of TWC will be our guest along with Bob Ryan of WJLA-TV in Washington. Watch live here… the show begins at 8:30 p.m. CDT.
