An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

COOL AND DAMP: Low clouds cover Alabama this morning, and we see a little lingering light rain on radar over the eastern counties of the state. The weather won’t change much today; the clouds will hang tough, and a touch of light rain or drizzle will be possible. Temperatures won’t get out of the 50s.

TONIGHT/TOMORROW: Another bit of energy will pass through the upper trough over the eastern U.S. tonight, and that could squeeze out some light rain, mainly over the northeast counties of the state, and we will mention that possibility in the forecast. Then, for tomorrow, we will forecast a windy and cool day with a clearing sky as drier air works into the state. We won’t get out of the 50s, and the gusty northwest wind will make it feel cooler. We head for the mid to upper 30s early Thursday morning.

THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: A warming trend will headline these four days, but nights will stay chilly (we should be in the mid 30s early Friday). Look for a high near 60 Thursday, followed by upper 60s Friday, and low 70s over the weekend.

Football weather should be fine; clear and cool for the high school playoff games Thursday and Friday night. For Saturday’s Alabama/Texas A&M game in Tuscaloosa, the sky should be mostly sunny with low 70s at kickoff. And, for the Auburn/Georgia game Saturday evening at Jordan-Hare Stadium, a clear sky with temperatures in the mid 60s at kickoff. Very nice.

While we enjoy a nice weekend, severe storms could erupt across the Great Plains Saturday night and Sunday ahead of a deep upper trough moving out of the western third of the nation.

SEVERE WEATHER HERE EARLY NEXT WEEK? The 00Z runs are not quite as bullish on a big severe weather issue here; the upper trough is not quite as deep, but there is still a good setup for a line of strong storms with potential for gusty winds. Of course, this will probably change again as it is just too early to be really specific. Just something to watch in coming days.

The mid-month period looks potentially active and stormy at times; see the Weather Xtreme video for the graphics and details.

STORM ALERT XTREME IS SATURDAY: Our annual storm spotter training is coming up this Saturday at the BJCC, as part of the Alabama International Auto show. We begin at 9:00, and you will be done at 2:00. And, as a “thank you”, you will get free admission into the car show. There is no cost, and no need to register, just show up. Brian Peters will be the trainer, and we ask all existing and potential Skywatchers to attend. We are excited that Kevin Laws of the NWS Birmingham will be conducting a session on using dual-pol radar. See you there!

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Scroll down for the show notes on the new episode we recorded last night. Very lively discussion on Sandy.
