ON THE MAPS: Yet another nor’easter is developing as forecast this morning just off the mid-Atlantic coast, with a sub-1000 millibar low southeast of the New Jersey coast. Here in Alabama, gusty north winds today will average 12-22 mph, making for a rather blustery day with temperatures not getting past the mid 50s. We will forecast gradual clearing, although the clouds could hang tough most of the day over the northeast counties of the state where a few sprinkles are possible. All of the state goes clear tonight, and we should be in the 30s early tomorrow morning.

TOMORROW/FRIDAY: These days will feature ample sunshine and chilly mornings, with lows in the 30s. The high tomorrow will be near 60, followed by upper 60s Friday.

WEEKEND FORECAST: Temperatures rise into the 70-73 degree range Saturday and Sunday, and we stay rain-free, although winds will begin to pick up Sunday ahead of a major system over the middle of the nation. That could bring strong to severe storms over parts of the Great Plains this weekend, and we will watch with great interest.

SEVERE STORMS MONDAY? The latest GFS runs suggest a much lower severe weather threat for our state with a weaker upper trough, and the best dynamic support well to the north. Still, a line of strong storms will pass through Monday afternoon or Monday night with potential for gusty winds. And, we are still several days away from this event and things could change, so stay tuned for updates. Breezy and cooler air follows the line of storms on Tuesday with a clearing sky. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Looks great. Clear and cool for the high school playoff games tomorrow and Friday nights… temperatures will fall through the 50s.

For Saturday’s Alabama/Texas A&M game at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, the sky will be mostly sunny with a temperature near 72 degrees at kickoff, falling into the 60s during the second half. Auburn will host Georgia Saturday evening at 6:00 at Jordan-Hare Stadium; the sky will be clear with a kickoff temperature near 66 degrees, falling into the 50 during the second half.

STORM ALERT XTREME IS SATURDAY: Our annual storm spotter training is coming up this Saturday at the BJCC, as part of the Alabama International Auto show. We begin at 9:00, and you will be done at 2:00. And, as a “thank you”, you will get free admission into the car show. There is no cost, and no need to register, just show up. Brian Peters will be the trainer, and we ask all existing and potential Skywatchers to attend. We are excited that Kevin Laws of the NWS Birmingham will be conducting a session on using dual-pol radar. See you there!
