Cold Tonight; Mild By The Weekend

| November 8, 2012 @ 2:41 pm

**No Weather Xtreme video this afternoon; I am doing the weather live at the Alabama International Auto Show at 4, 5, and 6:00 on ABC 33/40 News**

DRY DAYS: Not much change in the overall forecast thinking. Tonight will be cold again with lows down in the mid 30s for most places, and a freeze for the colder spots. But, we warm nicely into the upper 60s tomorrow afternoon with a sunny sky.

MILD WEEKEND: The weekend will remain dry, and the weather turns warmer. The sky will be partly to mostly sunny Saturday and Sunday with a high in the 70-75 degree range. Winds will increase Sunday ahead of a dynamic storm system over the middle of the nation.

NEXT WEEK: The 12Z GFS still shows a band of thunderstorms moving through Alabama Monday night, but the overall severe weather parameters look relatively weak at this point. We could see a few storms with gusty winds along the front, but unless something changes the severe weather threat doesn’t look too high.

Following the storms we turn cooler Tuesday with a high back in the 50s, and a cold morning is likely early Wednesday with a low between 30 and 35 degrees. See the morning Weather Xtreme video for the graphics and details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Looks great. Clear and cool for the high school playoff games tomorrow and Friday nights… temperatures will fall through the 50s. Many stadiums will be in the 40s during the second half of tonight’s games. Not as cold tomorrow night.

For Saturday’s Alabama/Texas A&M game at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, the sky will be mostly sunny with a temperature near 72 degrees at kickoff, falling into the 60s during the second half. Auburn will host Georgia Saturday evening at 6:00 at Jordan-Hare Stadium; the sky will be clear with a kickoff temperature near 66 degrees, falling into the 50 during the second half.

STORM ALERT XTREME IS SATURDAY: Our annual storm spotter training is coming up this Saturday at the BJCC, as part of the Alabama International Auto show. We begin at 9:00, and you will be done at 2:00. And, as a “thank you”, you will get free admission into the car show. There is no cost, and no need to register, just show up. Brian Peters will be the trainer, and we ask all existing and potential Skywatchers to attend. We are excited that Kevin Laws of the NWS Birmingham will be conducting a session on using dual-pol radar. See you there!

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
