We are going to a holiday schedule… so one Weather Xtreme video will be posted daily through Sunday.

SUNNY AND MILD THANKSGIVING WEATHER: Delightful weather is the story for Alabama through tomorrow; the sky will be sunny, and after cool mornings with lows in the 40s, the afternoon high will be very close to the 70 degree today and on Thanksgiving Day. Doesn’t get much better.

The sky will be partly sunny on Friday, and we stay mild with a high in the 67 to 70 degree range. A strong cold front will pass through late in the day, and there could be a few sprinkles or patches of light along the front over the Tennessee Valley of far North Alabama, but down this way we don’t expect any measurable rain since the air will be so dry.

COLD WEEKEND: Saturday will be a different kind of day. We will have a hard time getting out of the 40s despite a sunny sky, and a north wind of 10-20 mph will make it feel colder. Then, Sunday should be the coldest morning so far this season, with lows generally in the mid 20s. Some of the colder valleys across North Alabama might even make a run at the upper teens. Sunday will be cool and dry with a high in the mid to upper 50s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Friday night will be dry and cold for the remaining high school playoff games; the sky will be mostly fair with temperatures falling into the 40s during the games with a north breeze of 10-15 mph.

Then, the biggest game of the year in our state is Saturday, and the weather will be cold and dry for the Iron Bowl in Tuscaloosa (2:30 p.m. kickoff). The sky will be clear; the kickoff temperature will be around 51 degrees, falling into the 40s by halftime, and possibly into the upper 30s by the final whistle. A brisk north wind of 10-20 mph will make it feel colder.

TRAVEL WEATHER: This is the busiest travel day of the year according to those that should know these things. The good news is that a large percentage of the nation will enjoy quiet, calm weather, much like Alabama today. The main trouble area is the Northwest U.S… where valley rain and mountain snow will continue over states like Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and northern California. There will be no weather related delays at the major airport hubs over the eastern half of the U.S.

NEXT WEEK: The 06Z GFS shows a favorable setup for strong thunderstorms around here on Tuesday, but it remains to be seen if the air can sufficiently destabilize for a severe weather threat. See the Weather Xtreme video for the graphics and details. Much colder air will follow that round of storms over the latter half of the week.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
