Wednesday Evening Forecast Notes

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today; we are on a holiday schedule through Sunday**

MILD THANKSGIVING DAY: Not much change in the short term thinking. Tomorrow will be a mostly sunny Thanksgiving Day with a mild afternoon; the high will be very close to 70 degrees. The high Friday will be in the mid to upper 60s with a mix of sun and clouds; a cold front will pass through in mostly dry fashion… there could be a few sprinkles over the northern quarter of the state along the front Friday afternoon, but measurable rain is not likely.

COLD WEEKEND: Saturday will be a windy and cold day, but at least the sky will be sunny. The 12Z GFS is printing a high of only 51… below is a look at the projected temperatures over the eastern half of the nation at 12:00 noon (CST) Saturday via the 12Z NAM…

We will drop into the 20s early Sunday, and it still looks like the coldest morning so far this season. The day Sunday will be cool and dry with lots of sun and a high in the upper 50s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Friday night will be dry and cold for the remaining high school playoff games; the sky will be mostly fair with temperatures falling into the 40s during the games with a north breeze of 10-15 mph.

Then, the biggest game of the year in our state is Saturday, and the weather will be cold and dry for the Iron Bowl in Tuscaloosa (2:30 p.m. kickoff). The sky will be clear; the kickoff temperature will be around 51 degrees, falling into the 40s by halftime, and possibly into the upper 30s by the final whistle. A brisk north wind of 10-20 mph will make it feel colder.

SEVERE WEATHER NEXT TUESDAY? The 12Z GFS is painting a severe weather setup for the northern half of Alabama if instability values can sufficiently rise…

We will keep an eye on it in coming days… colder air returns after the storms Wednesday.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
