For the past few weeks and really this last week, numerous storm systems have been impacting Central Alabama. A slow moving, nearly stationary front draped across the state is allowing for increased convection and heavy rains to fall on some of the same locations over and over. This more often than not is a main culprit for widespread flooding events across the Southeast and that looks to be the case for this week. Many areas have received several inches of rain, allowing for very saturated grounds. With an additional 1 to 3 inches rain expected over the next 24-48 hours, many locations could experience flooding. Some areas could receive more than that locally. The saturated grounds won’t be able to absorb the water an access run off will be a problem. Rivers and streams are already running high and with the prolonged rain event, they will continue to rise. Travel across North-Central Alabama could be quite hazardous in many locations as water is ponding on roadways. Take precautions and please do not drive through flooded areas…TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN!!!
