RADAR CHECK: The rain has ended over Northwest Alabama at mid-afternoon, and the rest of the rain should be totally out of the state by late afternoon as drier air works in from the northwest. As expected, temperatures have been going the wrong way today; most communities have fallen into the 40s after early morning temperatures near 60.

We will down in the low to mid 30s early tomorrow with a clearing sky.

LONG DRY SPELL AHEAD: The weather during the mid-week period will be cool and dry. The high tomorrow will be near 60, but will drop into the mid 50s Wednesday with a cool breeze. The coldest morning will come early Thursday, with a sub-freezing low between 25 and 31 likely.

We warm to near 60 Thursday, and around 70 degrees Friday with a sunny both days.

DELIGHTFUL WEEKEND AHEAD: We stay rain-free Saturday and Sunday; the GFS is now printing a high of 75 degrees for Birmingham on Saturday; that would make it the warmest day so far this year if that is correct. Low to mid 70s are also likely Sunday with a mix of sun and clouds.

NEXT WEEK: The 12Z GFS is a little faster with the next system, hinting at a chance of showers/storms Monday night into Tuesday, but it doesn’t look like a severe weather setup at this point. In fact, the weather looks fairly tame through the rest of March. See the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and details.

AT THE BEACH: Great weather on the Gulf Coast through the weekend for those of you on spring break this week. Sunny days, fair nights. Highs in the 60s, lows in the 40s through Friday; afternoon temperatures rise into the 70s over the weekend. The sea water temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab this afternoon is only 60 degrees. You might want to try the hotel pool instead…

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. We will produce this week’s episode tomorrow night at 8:30 p.m. CDT.
