COLD NIGHT FOR MARCH: Winds will die down across Alabama this evening, and with a clear sky the stage is set for a late season freeze for the northern half of Alabama late tonight and early tomorrow. Most communities will see a low in the 25-30 degree range. Cold, but nowhere near the record low for March 14… 2 degrees set in 1993 when we had one foot of snow on the ground after the great Blizzard of 93.

Tomorrow will be sunny with a high in the upper 50s.

BIG WARM-UP FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY: The GFS and the NAM are now printing a high of 74 degrees for Birmingham Friday with a sunny sky… that will bring out some serious cases of spring fever. We stay in the mid 70s Saturday and Sunday… moisture will begin to increase Sunday, but showers should remain north of here closer to a surface front near I-40.

NEXT CHANCE OF RAIN: The 12Z GFS has come in a little deeper with the upper trough northwest of Alabama early next week; that will push a cold front through here, and we will mention a chance of showers, and possibly a thunderstorm, Monday through Monday night. Still, the best dynamic lift will be north of Alabama, and for now the severe weather threat still looks low.

Drier air slightly cooler air moves in Tuesday with returning sunshine and a high in the low 60s.

We also note the 12Z GFS brings in another chance of rain by Thursday of next week (March 21)… see the Weather Xtreme video for details, maps, and graphics…

AT THE BEACH: Dry through the weekend with sunny days and fair nights. Highs will be mostly in the 60s, although 70 degrees is possible over the weekend. The cool ocean water will limit how high the air temperature can get along the immediate coast; the sea water temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab this afternoon is only 60 degrees.
