A flash flood watch will remain in effect for much of North and East Alabama through tomorrow, as the large scale pattern continues to favor lots of tropical rain across Alabama and the Deep South. Below is a radar grab around 4:00… showing the heaviest rain over Northwest Alabama…

As expected, temperatures have been holding in the 70s today because of the clouds and rain… making it one of the coolest July 4ths on record in Alabama.

FIREWORKS SHOWS TONIGHT: It won’t rain everywhere all the time tonight, so hopefully for the major fireworks shows there will be a break in the rain. But, it could rain at anytime, anywhere in Alabama tonight, so take the rain gear if you will be out and about watching fireworks.

TOMORROW AND SATURDAY: No real change… very high PWAT (precipitable water) values… over two inches in spots… will stay in place, and an upper trough west of the state will provide good dynamic lift for occasional showers and tropical downpours. The rain could be heavy at times, and you won’t see much sunshine. And, like today, we will probably have a hard time getting out of the 70s.

SUNDAY AND EARLY NEXT WEEK: We will trend slowly toward fewer showers and storms, and more sunshine as moisture levels decrease and the dynamic lift weakens. Still, we will have at least scattered showers and storms around Sunday and on through most of next week. Afternoon highs will finally be back around 90 degrees by Wednesday.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Rain amounts of 10 to 12 inches have been reported in the Florida Panhandle today in the general area between Panama City and Destin with major flooding issues. The amounts have been lighter to the west around Pensacola and Gulf Shores.

Occasional showers and storms remain likely along the Central Gulf Coast tomorrow and Sunday with only a very limited amount of sunshine… weather conditions will begin to slowly improve Sunday and next week.

Look for the next Weather Xtreme video here tomorrow morning….
