Evening Alabama Update–6:45 Report

| January 31, 2007 @ 6:49 pm | 28 Replies

Precipitation is spreading into West-Central and NW Alabama early tonight, but so far it appears that little or none of it is touching the ground. There were radar indications that there could be some possible sleet around Tuscaloosa, but so far no reports of it touching the ground.

We do have a report of some light sleet in DeKalb County in East-Central Mississippi. Precipitation is a little more extensive over in Mississippi. The NWS in Jackson is getting a little more concerned about the freezing rain potential for Washington County in the Mississippi Delta and the adjacent part of SE Arkansas.

Back home in Alabama temperatures have fallen to 32 at Muscle Shoals. It is probably also around freezing at Russellville and Red Bay. The high in Muscle Shoals was only 34 and in Huntsville 35. The dew point is still very low mostly in the teens.

Still looks like the weather is on track like we have been talking about all day. You can scan down to some earlier posts and get a briefing on what is expected. In a nutshell, the risk of any bridge or overpass icing will be mostly along a line from Lamar County, down across Jefferson County, then down across Talladega County into Randolph County in East-Central Alabama. Further north across the Tennessee Valley, most of the precipitation tonight will be in the form of sleet and snow and there could be anywhere from 1 to 2 inches accumulation across the valley.

We will have a lot more updates as the night goes on. We will be burning the midnight oil.
