Moisture moving into this area will start out as sleet, or a snow/sleet mix. Sleet or snow will fall overnight, with one to inches of accumulation occurring. The precipitation may change over to freezing rain during the pre-dawn hours. Travel problems could be widespread before the precipitation changes to rain as temperatures warm above freezing after sunrise. Melting should occur before 9 a.m. Prepare to check road and weather conditions before attempting any travel through tomorrow morning. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 9 a.m.

Northwest Alabama…
Marion… Winston… Lamar… Fayette… Walker Counties.
34F in Fayette… no Skycam report from Hamilton or Jasper since 8:47 p.m….Skywatcher reported 33.4 in Hamilton a short time ago…now 32 just north of Hamilton…
Sleet will continue moderate to heavy across much of this area…changing over to rain or freezing rain during the night depending on local surface temperatures…Travel problems will develop before the mix changes over to liquid precipitation just after sunrise. Check road and weather conditions before heading out in the morning. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6 a.m.

West Central Alabama…
Pickens… Tuscaloosa… Bibb… Hale… Greene… Sumter and points south…Currently 38 at Tuscaloosa…
A mix of rain and sleet changing over to all rain overnight. No significant travel problems expected but check latest information before travelling in case conditions change overnight.

North Central/Northeast Alabama…
Cullman… Blount… Etowah… Cherokee
36F at Cullman Airport… 36 at Gadsden…36 at Fort Payne
Sleet increasing, then mixing with and changing to rain until temperatures fall to near freezing after midnight…resuting in freezing rain. Some accumulation and glazing before temperatures moderate a bit toward sunrise. Travel problems will occur, especially at higher elevations of Northeast Alabama. Check road and weather conditions before travelling. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Travel problems should ease during the early morning in most area, but could linger into mid morning in higher elevations especially.

Birmingham Metro…
38F with light sleet at Airport at 10 p.m. 36.9 at Turssville now.
Sleet changing over to rain. Temperatures dropping close to freezing in some locations, resulting in some freezing rain. A close call in the Birmingham area in the morning…could be some icing especially on birgdes and overpasses. A Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 6 a.m. for Jefferson and St. Clair Counties. Shelby not in Advisory now. Temperature should edge up by 6 a.m. and any icing that develops will melt away. Get up early and check conditions in the morning before travelling.

East Central Alabama…

Sleet changing over to a mix of rain and freezing rain. Travel problems may develop. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Temperature should edge up by 6 a.m. and any icing that develops will melt away. Get up early and check conditions in the morning before travelling.

South of These Areas…
Some sleet on front end will change to rain overnight….with no significant travel problems expected…
