Clear and crisp this morning with some of the chilliest temperatures of the Fall season so far. In Northeast Alabama temperatures were well below freezing into the middle 20s in spots, Black Creek coming in at 24, but many spots in the upper 20s. Many urban spots stayed at or just above freezing but 32 was reached at many rural spots, 34 at Birmingham at this writing and 35 at Tuscaloosa.

Should be a mostly sunny day today with highs climbing into the lower to middle 60s. A few clouds are possible this afternoon, mostly high cirrus clouds.

For the Magic City Classic (Alabama State vs Alabama A&M) at Birmingham’s Legion Field today at the 2:30 pm kickoff the sky will be sunny with a temperature near 61 at kickoff, then falling into the 50s during the second half. Alabama will host Tennessee at Bryant-Denny Stadium this afternoon with 62 degrees as the game begins at 2:30 pm with 50s during the second half.

Auburn hosts Florida Atlantic this evening at Jordan-Hare Stadium at 6:00 pm and the sky will be clear with a kickoff temperature near 58 degrees, falling into the 40s by the final whistle. UAB plays indoors tomorrow; they are in the Alamodome to take on the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners at 4:30 pm where the day will be mostly cloudy with scattered thundershowers and a high in the mid to upper 70s.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Mostly sunny days, fair nights through Monday from Gulf Shores over to Panama City. Highs will be in the 70s, with lows mostly in the 50s, although some spots could see upper 40s on the coast early tomorrow.

However clouds will increase across the area tonight and early Sunday ahead of a weak short wave rotating through the long wave trough. Moisture will be limited with this passing trough, however, probably enough for a few sprinkles with rain gauges collecting only a few hundredths of an inch.

Ridging comes into play after that so we should be dry for the first half of the upcoming week. Model differences are fairly big with the arrival of the next system. The GFS is the fastest suggesting the middle of the day on Thursday while the ECMWF holds the rain ahead of the front until much later Thursday or very early Friday. Both bring the front through fairly quickly with a reasonably fast flow aloft clearing the way for another chilly but dry weekend for the Southeast US.

SPC has no slight risk area for today, however, some storms may verge on severe weather criteria in Southeast Texas. And the tropics are still quiet.

Our weather pattern remains very fluid as you typically expect this time of year with a nice train of systems. Looks like we warm up with a nice ridge in early November but cool down with another shot at rain around the 9th or 10th.
