A Bitterly Cold Night

| January 28, 2014 @ 7:40 pm

With snow on the ground and a clearing sky, expect the very cold temperatures, currently in the teens, to only go lower overnight, especially once the sky clears. Looking at forecast lows for early Wednesday morning, shows Birmingham at 9 while lower teens and single digits are expected elsewhere across the region.

The snow on the ground could actually cause our temperatures to go lower tonight. The proper conditions will be present tonight to see widespread single digits across Central Alabama, especially anywhere there is snow on the ground. I would not be surprised to see reading from 2-7 degrees in some locations in Central Alabama. None of the snow is expected to melt tonight with such cold temperatures.

The weather will remain very cold tomorrow and afternoon highs will struggle to reach the freezing mark which will make for a very slow melting process tomorrow. We will have full sunshine though and that should help some.
