Pesky Clouds and Cooler Temps

| February 5, 2014 @ 12:11 pm

Low-level, thick clouds are hanging over the state today. The clouds are very slowly trying to move out of the area, and they are also mixing out as drier air in the upper-levels of the atmosphere works into the state. There are actually mostly sunny conditions over southwestern portions of the state, but the rest of the state remains socked in with overcast skies.

There are a few areas in Central Alabama seeing a few peeks of sunshine, and heading through the afternoon, there should be a few more breaks in the cloud cover. Most locations will see mostly cloudy conditions the rest of today, but should begin to see less cloud cover later this evening and overnight.

We are seeing a range in temperatures across the state as the clouds are hampering the warming process today. The 30s are hanging in the Tennessee Valley, low 40s along the Interstate 20 corridor, upper 40s towards U.S. 84, and 50s along the Alabama Gulf Coast. The cold air advection will last through the day as a new air mass is moving into the state. Our highs are not expected to warm much more this afternoon.
