Morning Update

| February 6, 2014 @ 10:19 am

Not much change in the overall thinking for today. We will see moisture move back in over the state throughout the day. Looking at the vertical profile of the atmosphere, the air over Alabama remains fairly dry. We do have clouds, but those are associated with a low, thin level of moisture. We will need the atmospheric column to saturate before measurable precip can reach the ground. We will see it slowly do that today.

There are showers and some wintry mix to our southwest and that will be lifting across Central Alabama this afternoon, but by that time temperatures will be above freezing. It should mostly be a rain event, but because the upper-levels are so cold, we will see a bit of snow and sleet mixing in with the rain. Any precip that falls today will be light and not amount to much. We are not expecting any significant accumulations, just a cold, wet afternoon and evening for Central Alabama. Of course we will be watching trends to our west will be updating the forecast as needed.

The current temps across Central Alabama are slowly warming this morning and areas along the Interstate 20 corridor have at least made it to or just above the freezing mark. Our temps will continue to climb the rest of the morning and into the afternoon hours. Most areas across Central Alabama will see temps climb into the upper 30s before the main area of precip arrives.
