Widely spaced showers and a few thunderstorms developed over West Central and NW Alabama late this afternoon and this evening.

At 6:30 pm, they were located over Marion, Fayette and Lamar County and a lone shower just east of Tuscaloosa. Heaviest ones over Marion County.

Moving slowly southward.

A separate family of stronger thunderstorms was advancing southward across SE Tennessee and NW Georgia, skirting the NE corner of Alabama.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch continues for almost the east half of Tennessee and the west edge of North Carolina.

To the north, a Moderate Risk of severe weather continues tonight from along the Iowa-Missouri border eastward into much of Central Illinois.

Another hot day across Alabama. Even at 6 pm, it was:

97 in Birmingham
99 in Haleyville and Gadsden
100 in Tuscaloosa and Muscle Shoals

Those were not the highs, instead the actual temperature at 6.
