Heads Up: Server Maintenance Tonight at Midnight

| February 25, 2014 @ 1:50 pm

I don’t know if you noticed, but on Friday, February 7th, Network Solutions, Inc upgraded AlabamaWX to a much more powerful server setup that has allowed us to handle over ten times the traffic we could previously.

We have been so thrilled with this setup, which allowed us to plow through the major winter storm week with record amounts of traffic without going into overload mode. The 593,000 pageviews on February 11th were an all time record, surpassing even those of April 27, 2011.

Tonight, we will be doing some important maintenance on the server at midnight CST. This means AlabamaWX will be down for 15 minutes beginning around midnight. We will be monitoring the weather through the period and will have a fresh update as soon as the maintenance is complete.

Just wanted to give you a heads up because we will be monitoring the potential for wintry precipitation tonight in a short window between midnight and 4 a.m. in areas generally north of a line from Carrollton to Northport to Hoover to Munford. Sleet and a little freezing rain could mix with rain tonight before the precipitation ends as temperatures drop. The best chance will be north of US-278.

While the ground is relatively warm and the odds of any accumulation are remote, we will be on weather watch tonight just in case anything changes and we will be updating the forecast throughout the day as new model data comes in.
