Colder air continues to flow into Alabama and Mississippi late tonight.

Meanwhile, low pressure moving along the Gulf Coast is combining with an upper level disturbance to produce rain showers with some thunder over northern Mississippi into North Alabama.

The precipitation is starting out as sleet thanks to evaporational cooling due to the dry air aloft.

No change in the forecast thinking. As the colder air continues to flow in overnight, the precipitation will change back to sleet, perhaps mixed with freezing rain or some snow after midnight near the Tennessee River. The transition will continue to push south through the overnight hours, reaching the I-20 corridor around sunrise.

While no accumulations are expected, we will continue to monitor the situation throughout the night.

The blog will go down for important maintenance around midnight. It will be down for about 15 minutes.

Then Ryan Stinnett will update the situation throughout the night.
